BARKING AND Dagenham and Havering councils are the first local authorities in London to provide a joint service.

The two authorities will work together to collect business rates for central government in order to make their work more cost-efficient.

Havering council will provide IT services, while Barking and Dagenham will deal with administration and with the collection of rates from both boroughs.

The partnership, which was launched last month, has set up a team of ten administrators who will operate from Stour Road, Dagenham, to provide better and easier services to businesses.
