A number of caravans were spotted pitching up on a patch of land off Bastable Avenue, Barking, in between Hockley Mews and Curzon Crescent.

A spokesman for Barking and Dagenham Council said: “We are aware of the situation and we are taking action with the police to resolve as soon as possible.”

Groups of travellers have been removed from Dagenham Park, Castle Green, Mayesbrook Park and Abbey Green already this summer.
