Travellers left Barking this afternoon after being warned that they could be arrested.

Several caravans pitched up off Bastable Avenue yesterday, on land between Hockley Mews and Curzon Crescent.

Leader of the council, Cllr Darren Rodwell, said: “We responded swiftly to residents’ concerns to protect their quality of life.

“I can assure residents we will not hesitate to take robust action against individuals or groups when and where possible.”
