MATTHEW UPSON looks set to return to the West Ham line-up against Birmingham City on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring injury.

It will be a welcome boost for Hammers manager Gianfranco Zola after the influential defender missed the Burnley win and Manchester United defeat.

Upson, who is captain, would take the armband back from Scott Parker, who has filled in as skipper in his absence.

Fears Robert Green would be unavailable, after he was struck down with sickness during the 4-0 loss at Upton Park to United, have been allayed with the England shot-stopper confident of retaining his place between the sticks.

Zola will be without Zavon Hines who suffered a knee injury during the same game.

The club are currently assessing the extent of the damage.
