GARDENS in Barking are set for a makeover, and the council want people's views about it.

The gardens in Essex Road are being improved by the environment charity, Groundwork East London, who will be working with residents living nearby to draw up detailed plans for the scheme.

At a community event to be held on Saturday, March 8, people will have the opportunity to fill in a questionnaire about their views on the scheme.

An artist will also be there on the day to help children draw their own ideas of a play area for the gardens.

Cllr Val Rush, Executive Member for Parks, said: "We really need to hear people's views as we want them to have parks where people of all ages and backgrounds meet to enjoy themselves."

The event will be at nearby Ripple Junior School in Suffolk Road, Barking from 10.30am-2pm.
