BARKING and Dagenham council spends more filling water coolers each year than the annual income of some working households.

The POST can reveal through the Freedom of Information Act that council bosses splash out up to £41,000 providing mineral and mains water for staff and visitors.

An analysis by corporate procurement indicated water coolers and bottled water is paid for through council tax and government grants.

A recent Panorama program revealed local authorities such as Hampshire and Kent are the most extravagant spending upwards of £100,000 a year.

Whereas Milton Keynes and Thurrock revealed they spent nothing on bottled water; Barking and Dagenham rests somewhere in the middle of the group.
