Officers are appealing for information following an assault on Friday.
Police were called at approximately 9.20pm following reports of a group of five men assaulting another male in Wakering Road.
The suspects fled in a black Ford Focus car.
By the time officers arrived at the scene, the victim had also left , but a blood-stained t-shirt was found.
Detective Constable Nicola Dunn of Barking and Dagenham CID said: “I am appealing for anyone with information about this incident to contact police.
“The victim may have been seriously injured and may require urgent medical attention. If you were in the area and saw this incident, or know any of the people involved, please call.”
The suspects were described as a group of black and Asian males - the victim was described as a black male.
