A WOMAN got the fright of her life when she walked into her kitchen and saw a burglar forcing the window open with a claw hammer.

The thief ran off, jumped over a fence, and escaped through Greatfields Park, Barking, on Friday March 7 at 2.25pm.

The woman, who lives in Greatfields Road, called the police and gave them a description.

Officers later caught up with him in nearby streets, found the hammer, and made the arrest. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
