WHEN you want to be a star, you have to start at the bottom of the money chain and washing cars is one way to get your name up in lights.

Youngsters from the Broadway Youth Theatre, (BYTe) are rolling up their sleeves and washing and polishing cars among a host of other fund raising events this weekend to raise cash for their next production.

More than 150 members of BYTe are hoping the crowds will turn out and support their quest to raise cash after losing their main sponsor, The Jack Petchey Foundation, who were forced to withdraw support earlier this year.

The youngsters came up with a theme of 'putting the fun into fundraising' and will launch into car washing, three legged walk, family quiz and turning the green space outside the theatre into a family fun arena and finishing the day with a performance by the young members.

The money raised will help the group put on further productions through out the year and follow on from the many successful performances such as 'Poverty Bay' last year that saw a full auditorium.

The fun and games start from 10am until 4pm on Sunday June 14 outside the theatre, and BYTe members, with ages ranging from six to 21, will be on hand to help visitors ease the cash out of the pockets and purses, all for a very good cause of course.
