The young mayor of Barking and Dagenham has teamed up with the borough’s youth forum to raise money for a homeless charity for young people.

Young mayor Wesley Operaugo will be taking part in a sponsored walk to raise money for the New Horizon Youth Centre, an organisation that offers support to young homeless people across London by helping them into education, employment, training and accommodation.

Wesley and the Barking and Dagenham Youth Forum are hoping to raise a total of £1,500 by doing the walk, which will involve an overnight stay where he will sleep in an environment similar to that of a homeless person.

Wesley said: “Homelessness os one of the most serious issues that we currently face in London and it can happen to anybody at any time.

“The New Horizon Youth Centre do some fantastic work to help people get their lives back on track, so it would be great if we could raise as much money as possible to assist them with their charitable endeavours.”
