SILVER surfers have been learning about computers and getting online thanks to young people on the Gascoigne estate.

The scheme began earlier this year when some of the older residents requested a course in using new technologies.

Four young people aged 13-17 help the older generation, showing them how to email, use computer programmes and surf the web.

It was hugely successful on the Barking estate and the scheme is now being considered for other areas by the council.
