A student midwife hopes Post readers will help her complete her studies by assisting births in the Philippines.

Charlotte Bardwell, 24, has wanted to help a poorer country since she began her midwifery studies at City University, London, in 2014.

She’s hoping to raise £1,500 to travel there in August, where she’d spend two weeks delivering babies in what she admits will be a challenging change in environment.

“We’re very lucky to have the NHS,” she said. “I like other cultures and I’ve always wanted to see how a country without those resources delivers babies.”

Charlotte, who lives in Langdale Close, Dagenham, says she likes the “hands-on” world of midwifery, adding: “You literally get to see a family come together – it’s a privilege. Delivering babies is pretty amazing.”
