Barking came up agonisingly short in their latest Hamro Foundation Essex League Division Three outing at Leigh-on-Sea on Saturday.

Having put the home side into bat at Chalkwell Park, they saw Hazrat Shah strike early with the new ball.

Omar Khan (2-43) ended a good second-wicket stand and struck again soon after, before Farhan Ejaz and Abdul Rehman Razzaq got in on the act to leave Leigh 121-6.

Razzaq (4-53) picked up two more scalps, before Shah (3-46) returned to finish the innings on 193.

But Barking were soon in trouble after captain Hasnain Qureshi and opening partner Garnet Shallow fell cheaply to leave them 17-2.

Eman Shaikh held firm as the visitors slipped to 46-4, then put on 64 with Bhavik Kothari (23).

Shaikh eventually fell for 89, having faced 110 balls and hit a six and nine fours, to leave Barking 174-7 and was followed by Khan (22), Shah and Ejaz as Barking were dismissed for 189.

They slipped to fourth in the table behind local rivals Goresbrook as a result and will look to bounce back when they welcome Woodford Green to Mayesbrook Park on Saturday (12.30pm).

Half-centuries from Imran Butt (63) and Sivakumar Subramanian (55) led the seconds to 273 against London Eagles in their Essex County League Premier Division encounter.

Jaivin Gosai (41) and Sheraz Sheryar (33) also chipped in with the bat for the home side, with Aaron Libby (4-21) the pick of their bowling as Eagles replied with 131-8.

Brett Libby nabbed 2-33 for Barking, ahead of a trip to Clayhall Park to take on Redbridge this weekend.

Haris Ali (3-16), Sarith Fernando (3-34) and Asif Khan (3-35) combined with the ball as the thirds dismissed their Redbridge rivals for 134 in Division Three.

But Barking's batters struggled in reply, with only Sami Haq and Qasim Wajid reaching double figures as they were skittled for 87.

They host Newham fourths at Seven Kings Park on Saturday.

Sheryar (53) top scored as Barking were dismissed for 161 on Sunday by Super Thunder, who went on to win their NCL Championship clash by two wickets.

Zahid Hanif retired out on 76 from 62 balls, having hit two sixes and 10 fours, as Barking's Sunday XI beat Woodford Green by five wickets in a 35-over friendly.
