Dagenham & Redbridge were brought back down to earth by defeat against Boreham Wood at Victoria Road.

Ben Strevens made two changes to his starting line-up from Saturday's win over Woking, as Myles Weston and Aidan Francis-Clarke came in for Freddie Sears and Harry Phipps.

Wood included former Daggers captains Matt Robinson and Angelo Balanta, meanwhile, as well as Femi Ilesanmi and saw Balanta denied by Elliot Justham's early reaction save.

But Daggers took the lead on 20 minutes when weekend matchwinner Effiong switched the ball onto his left foot and produced a cool finish past Nathan Ashmore.

And the hosts went close soon after when a sharp move saw Josh Hare pick out Effiong, but the big striker fired over on this occasion.

Wood were inches away from an equaliser on 32 minutes, when Tyrone Marsh saw his header hit the outside of a post. And Robinson then hit an upright with an effort from range less than a minute later.

But there was no let-off for Daggers on 35 minutes, as Billy Sass-Davies did get Wood back on level terms from a set-piece.

Justham denied Balanta for a second time four minutes before the break, with the Colombian firing over from 18 yards on the stroke of half-time.

Strevens made two changes during the interval, sending Omar Mussa and Charley Kendall on for Frank Vincent and Johnson.

But Daggers were behind within three minutes as Lee Ndlovu put Wood in front and only a linesman's flag denied Balanta a third on 64 minutes.

There was no reprieve on 68 minutes, though, as Sousa made it 3-1, and Strevens sent on Sears for Weston in the aftermath.

But Daggers could not force their way back into the match as Wood took the spoils.
