With the season in full swing, St Chads returned a mixed set of results but with a more positive feeling about their performances.
In a home match against Harold Hill, they narrowly lost on both rinks, with Ray Mansell taking best rink honours for St Chads.
Travelling to Hainault again on Friday, St Chads struggled to cope with the uneven surface and were beaten on both rinks.
There was, however, a virtuoso display from lead Glenys Wadey, who helped keep the deficit to an 11-15 loss.
On the other rink, Sue Beazer led her team well but was unfortunate to go down 18-11.
Between those fixtures, St Chads were invited to visit the unique funeral museum of their sponsors, T Cribb and Sons Ltd, which proved to be a real highlight of the week.
A sociable club, St Chads also enjoyed a friendly fixture on Sunday, travelling to Rayleigh on the hottest day of the year so far for a four-rink match.
Captain for the day Steve Aguis, produced a captain’s performance but was unlucky to lose narrowly 17-15.
Ray Mansell was involved in an even closer contest, edged out 13-12, while the standout success came from superskip Les Crowther, who claimed a convincing 15-8 victory.
Despite the heat, there was no sign of sunstroke, and attention now turns to a busy week ahead as higher-level competitions begin, with St Chads looking to build on their improving displays.
