Amanda Heslegrave of Barking Road Runners produced another sterling performance to finish as the fastest VF45 runner at the Horndon on the Hill 10k.

Heslegrave was one of a number of club runners to take part in the race and came home in a time of 46 minutes and 48 seconds.

Also in action were Derv Bartlett (40.10), Kevin Wotton (41.53), James Lowndes (42.55), Paul Withyman (42.55), Philip Ellul (44.25), Antony Leckerman (45.03), Paul Ward (47.07), Andrew Gwilliam (49.43) and Faye Spooner (50.30).

Robin Booputh (53.08), Mark Durrant (56.21), Katie Withyman (56.43), Maria Bartlett (57.50), Nicola Cranmer (60.01), Nyokabi Kiruthi (62.21), Robert Courtier (66.19), Ken Summerfield (68.10) and Mick Ball (74.13) all completed the race.

There was a smaller group of club runners in action at the Orion Harriers event, the only category one fell race inside the M25.

Competitors were challenged from the off with a scramble up Pole Hill in Chingford to start, followed by several downhill stretches.

With such a difficult course for athletes, runners offered each other tremendous support, even to competitors from rivals clubs.

Richard Gatehouse was the first Barking Road Runners member home in 30.48, followed by Liam Johnson (31.33), Manish Sharma (32.17), Rakesh Sandhu (32.56), Andrew Gwilliam (34.10) and Alain Cooper (36.03), who was running for Orion Harriers.

Colin Jones, meanwhile, took on the gruelling task of an ultra marathon at the Harp 24 race, completing 92.4 miles in total, having set himself a target of 90 miles.

At the Dame Kelly Holmes 5k, Trevor Parkin donned Barking Road Runners colours for the first time, completing the race which winded its way through the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
