Local runner passes landmark

Barry Culling celebrated his 250th parkrun in the only way he knows how to — running in fancy dress with a crowd and scoffing cake at the end.

Despite the early morning heat the Dagenham runner completed his landmark 250 race whilst dressed as the iconic Mr Blobby.

Culling has volunteered over 70 times at parkrun and participated at 63 different parkrun events. He also won first place in the Barking & Dagenham points competition in 2012/13.

Commenting on his achievement Culling said: “I’m over the moon. It’s been a really enjoyable five years. I’ve missed one Saturday in that time so that says it all really. I hope to keep running for a very long time. Thank you to everyone for the kind words.”

Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5k timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. Find your local race at www.parkrun.org.uk/events/events.
