Barking Road Runners claimed the South Essex Cross-Country League Division Two title at South Weald on Sunday.

No less than 38 members were in action in the fourth and final round, covering a tricky 4.5-mile course, and Lee Johnson led the squad home in a fine fourth place.

Charlotte Webster was Barking’s leading woman in 29th, with Amanda Heslegrave, Cristina Cooper, Natalie Traylen, Stephanie Keyworth, Vicki Groves, Alison Fryatt, Veronica Barikor, Melissa Lowndes, Nikki Cranmer and Maria Bartlett also in action.

The men were represented by Steve Philcox, James Lowndes, Derv Bartlett, Paul Ward, Diarmuid Mac Donnell, Martin Page, Kevin Wotton, Colin Jones, Ron Vialls, Trevor Cooper, Stuart Burr, John George, Daniel Plawick, Andrew Gwilliam, Mick Davidson, Gary Harford, Tom Coughlan, Martin Mason, Alain Cooper, Kresh Veerasamy, Anthony Maughan, Rob Courtier, Les Jay, Raymond Miah, John Collins and Micky Ball.

*Barking’s Clare Forman was in action over 8k at the National Championships at Parliament Hill, while Vicky Cooper was first woman home at the Roding Valley half marathon in 1:32.10.

Clubmates Paul Withyman (1:35.06) and Alex Jeremy (1:38.54) were not far behind, as athletes tackle a small 1.1-mile loop followed by two challenging, undulating six-mile loops, while Antony Leckerman completed the popular scenic Brighton event in a good time of 1:44.10.

*Trevor Cooper was first club member home at the latest Barking parkrun in 22.44, ahead of Andrew Hiller (24.11), Barry Culling (24.40), Mahbub Khan (24.42), John Lang (25.52), Sally Bridge (28.15) and Les Jay (29.32).

Rory Burr completed the Harrow Lodge event in 21.54, as Tom Barton (23.58) finished ahead of Vicki Groves (28.00) and Antony Leckerman (28.01) at Valentines.
