Members tackle Essex Championships after year away
Barking Road Runners returned to Essex Cross-Country Championship action after a year away and enjoyed the challenge.
An experimental team took on the tough course in Claybury, with Cristina Cooper finishing the senior women’s five-mile race in 44 minutes 28 seconds for 79th place.
Natalie Traylen clocked 46.34 to finish 93rd, representing Newham & Essex Beagles, and Alison Fryatt came home in 52.16 for 130th place.
Diarmuid Mac Donnell was first Barking member home in the men’s 7.5-mile race, finishing 159th in 51.16 ahead of Andrew Gwilliam (55.34), as Trevor Cooper took on one lap as a taster.
n Barking members celebrated a double at the Gravesend Floodlit 10k last Thursday, with Vicky Cooper the first woman to finish and leading Amanda Hestlegrave and Cristina Cooper to team success.
Hestlegrave was the second female home, while Cristina Cooper and Andrew Gwilliam won their age group events as Trevor Cooper, Faye Spooner and Andy Preston also took part.
Barry O’Neill recorded a new personal best of 22.53 at the latest Barking parkrun, while Mark Durrant clocked his fastest time yet of 26.58 at Valentines.
