Barking Road Runners showed their support for Ilford’s 10-mile cross-country event at Hainault Forest.

The annual race is held to help raise funds for Ilford’s Kevin Newell, who requires full-time care after an accident, and competitors run three laps of a challenging and muddy course.

Derv Bartlett was first Barking member home in 19th place in 71 minutes 15 seconds, with Diarmuid Mac Donnell (72.55) not far behind.

Colin Jones took 18 minutes off his personal best to clock 77.21, as Viorel Mih (79.11), John George (81.51), Wayne McAllister (82.05), Ron Vialls (84.20) and Rakesh Sandhu (87.05) all beat the 90-minute mark.

Completing a large Barking contingent were Alain Cooper (96.16), Cristina Cooper (97.13), Natalie Traylen (97.35), Philip Ellul (98.26), Kresh Veerasamy (1:45.51), Veronica Barikor (1:47.02), Alison Fryatt (1:48.37), Dennis Spencer-Perkins (1:56.52) and Rob Courtier (1:57.47).

n Several members doubled up on New Year’s Day at the Wanstead Flats and Valentines parkrun events.

Antony Leckerman was first Barking runner home at Wanstead in 23.55, ahead of Andrew Gwilliam (23.59), Cristina Cooper (25.44), Rakesh Sandhu (26.05), Thomas Coughlan (27.05), Kresh Veerasamy (28.51), Alison Fryatt (32.22) and Chris Anastasi (33.49).

Derv Bartlett led the way at Valentines with a new best of 19.37, ahead of Diarmuid Mac Donnell (20.14), Colins Jones (21.33) and Ron Vialls (22.11).

Leckerman (22.35) was first of the doubling-up athletes to finish, with Gwilliam (22.42) close behind, and Cooper (25.01), Sandhu (26.59), Veerasamy (29.11), Fryatt (29.44) and Coughlan (30.35) also in action.

Mahbub Khan (24.42), Dawn Blake (26.24), Dennis Spencer-Perkins (29.09), Robert Courtier (31.04), Micky Ball (35.01) and Alan Murphy (43.03) also dusted off the cobwebs to take part.
