Barking Road Runners’ Faye Spooner completed two more marathons in the space of just three days to boost her bid to run 12 in a year.
Just two days after finishing the Twilight Marathon at Redbridge Cycle Path, Spooner took on the Saxons, Vikings & Normans Great British Run up in Penistone, Yorkshire.
And Spooner, who was said to be surprised to have finished with less aches than when she started, is now focusing on her next marathon challenge in September.
A Barking club spokesperson said: “It is not unheard of for an athlete to take on a marathon a day challenge, but for any athlete to take on a marathon just two days after completing one should not be understated as nothing less than an immense achievement of physical and mental endurance.”
Barking sent a good-sized squad to the latest East London Five Interclub Series event, hosted by Orion Harriers on Chingford Plain.
The Forest 5 is a favourite of many runners as the five-mile trail run is fairly challenging and picturesque, with Stuart Henderson (31.46) first home for Barking in 26th place.
Derv Bartlett was next in 32.23, as Diarmuid Mac Donnell (33.51), Philip Ellul (34.30), Paul Withyman (34.52), Vicky Cooper (35.09), Richard Gatehouse (35.13), Antony Leckerman (36.27), Martin Page (38.05), Rakesh Sandhu (39.14), Jacqui Bennett (39.40) and Andrew Gwilliam (39.59) all went below 40 minutes.
Tom Barton (40.45), Trevor Cooper (40.50), Ronald Vialls (41.53), Michael Davison (42.27), Alain Cooper (42.50) and Cristina Cooper (44.20) were among the next group to finish.
And Barking’s contingent was completed by Chris Groves (45.51), Maria Bartlett (46.08), Natalie Traylen (47.04), Nicola Cranmer (48.28), Vicki Groves (49.10), Kresh Veerasamy (49.49), Robin Booputh (50.21), Alison Fryatt (51.25), Robert Courtier (52.04), Nige Swaby (55.11), Ken Summerfield (57.27), five-mile debutant Gillian Barton (58.56) and Mick Ball (61.24).
