Barking Road Runners’ ultra marathoner Colin Jones added an impressive total to his career mileage at the 24-hour Sri Chinmoy event at the weekend.

Jones completed a total of 72 miles at the event, while Andy Preston took part in the English Half Marathon and finished in one hour 43 minutes and five seconds.

Several other Barking members chose to stay closer to home at the Ingatestone five mile event on Sunday, with Lee Johnson the first home in 27.41.

Kieron Chapman (38.53), Alison Fryatt (45.00) and Micky Ball (55.00) completed the contingent.

Mick Wilby tackled the Olympic Park one-mile event, finishing in 7.34, and also ran the 10k in 55.23.

But Philip Ellul was pipped to the post in the latest Barking parkrun, losing out by two seconds to Jay Kilshaw (19.34), as wheelchair athlete Gary Donald (19.37) completed a tight top three in the men’s event.

Havering’s Sarah Wilson led the women home in 20.21, as Jayne Stacey (21.40) and Rahana Islam (25.02), of Dagenham 88 Runners, also made it onto the podium.

Ray Mitchell and Trevor Cooper – appearing in his 50th parkrun – claimed the Sweatshop prize of the month for July and August, each winning a free pair of running shoes.

Mitchell wore his new shoes and shaved seven seconds off his personal best, while Cristina Cooper completed her 100th parkrun and Kaya Smith and Dawn Rattrey made their debuts.

A total of 11 runners set new personal bests on the day, including Bradley Brown, Reece Hill, David Adams, Paige Hill, Phil Hanmore, Hope Diji, Eddie Clampin, Akinkunmi Ebofi, Ifatt Jehan, Ryder and Rahana Islam.

Donald, Ron Vialls and Ryder Islam had the best Age Grade scores as Barry Culling, Sonu Thethy, Chris Anastasi, Alison Fryatt, Bobbie Hyams, Rebecca Morgan, Kofi Appiah, Trevor Cooper, Harminder Singh and Darren Fazackerley carried out volunteer duties.
