THE first leg of the 2008 Club Championships saw the Dagenham 88 runners take the short journey south of the river to take part in the Sidcup 10 mile event.

Described as "an undulating course", it wasn't until they got to the venue that they found that the course was three laps.

Roy Bentley was the first of the runners home in a very respectable time of 66 minutes and 34 seconds in 53rd place.

Bill Adams began the defence of his championship by finishing next in 106th place and 72.08, Caroline Tuck, last year's ladies' champion, was next home in 74.31 and 123rd, while Doug Adams 86.55 (229th) and Jo Riley 88.59 (242nd) ran most of the course side by side.

The team were completed by Mike Linstead 102.25 (289th) and Lee Davis 123.48 (305th).

The next leg of the championship is the Paddock Wood Half marathon on March 30.

Meanwhile, Bentley, Melissa Embery and Jo Riley took part in the Great Bentley half marathon where there were 817 finishers.

Embery managed a new PB of 2:01:55 and Bentley and Riley both achieved better times than they were anticipating for their first half marathon, recording 1:30:29 for 136th and 1:59:35 for 623rd respectively.
