Barking Road Runners had double reason to cheer at the Thames Chase 10k.

Lee Johnson was first athlete home in a fine time of 35 minutes 30 seconds, while clubmate Martin Page claimed top prize in the M60 age group in a time of 46.20.

Johnson ran with plenty of determination, in hot conditions, on a multi-lap and undulating route, while Derv Bartlett (41.17), Kevin Wotton (42.17), Paul Withyman (44.50), Antony Leckerman (46.14) and Richard Gatehouse (47.05) also dipped below 50 minutes.

Robin Booputh (53.40), Andrew Gwilliam (60.16), Alison Fryatt (60.31), Nikki Cranmer (62.29), Robert Courtier (66.02), Dennis Spencer-Perkins (66.52) and Micky Ball (76.00) completed the Barking contingent.

Barking sent a large group to the latest East London Five Interclub Series event hosted by Havering Joggers.

Vicky Cooper was first F45 athlete to finish in 34.37, while Johnson finished sixth overall in 27.38.

Bartlett (3.140), Diarmuid Mac Donnell (32.20), Wotton (32.49), Withyman (33.16), Viorel Mih (34.17), Martin Page (35.21), Leckerman (35.30), Trevor Cooper (36.34), Rakesh Sandhu (36.41), Andy Preston (37.41), Gwilliam (37.42), Amanda Heslegrave (38.19) and Barry Culling (38.25) all went sub-40 minutes on the day.

Sally Bridge (40.43) held off Mark Durrant (41.07) and Alain Cooper (41.10), with Booputh (41.38), Chris Groves (43.36), Maria Bartlett (44.23), Fryatt (44.55), Cranmer (46.15), Kresh Veerasamy (46.22), Cristina Cooper (47.46), Thomas Coughlan (48.55) and Nige Swaby (49.45) all below 50 minutes.

Completing Barking’s squad were Vicki Groves (50.10), Summerfield (53.17), Kirsten Hiller (53.42) and Ball (58.58).

Barking’s James Lowndes pushed himself to the limit at the Endure 24-hour race at Wasing Park near Reading.

Lowndes was among a field of some 3,000 like-minded runners who took on a race that consisted of repeat trail loops of five miles through Wasing Woods camping village and did well to finish.
