HAVERING MAYESBROOK'S 1500m athletes picked up an unusual hat-trick during the Essex Championships at Basildon on Saturday.

The Essex club picked up gold, silver and bronze in the 1500m, with Great Britain athlete Faye Fullerton winning gold, hotly pursued by club-mates Alexa Joel and Sara Luck.

It ended a fantastic weekend for the Essex club as they completed a medal haul of 14 golds, 17 silvers and six bronzes.

Jimi Tele won the under-15 long and triple jumps as well as the 100m bronze.

Bonne Buwembo smashed the Championship best in the under-20 javelin for gold and Nicola Hill's 400m PB earned her under-20 gold.

Luke Stott (400m) and Ross Clarke (5000m) added two more senior golds and silver service was provided by Mel Harrison (discus and shot), Claire Brennan (100m hurdles), Lucy Sargent (100m), Kate Cowley (long jump), Andrew Lewis (under-17s - 400m) and Jack Edgar-Hill (under-17, 100m hurdles).

Bronze medals went to Angela James (under-17, 80m hurdles) James Purnell (under-15s long jump), Daniel Gamester (ham-mer) and Sam Harrison (javelin).
