Barking Road Runners took on the seventh Grand Prix race of the season at the Harlow 10 Mile, where Lee Johnson came home in an outstanding eighth place.

The route began at Mark Hall School Sports Centre and followed a fast and gently undulating multi-terrain course, through quiet country lanes.

And Johnson led the way as he came home in one hour and 24 seconds, ahead of James Lowndes (1:06.37) and Colin Jones (1:10.56).

Paul Ward (1:12.59), Ron Vialls (1:14.36), Antony Leckerman (1:17.43) and Martin Page (1:20.46) were next to finish, with Cristina Cooper (1:29.13) the first woman home for Barking.

Martin Mason (1:34.03), Dennis Spencer-Perkinns (1:39.52), Alison Fryatt (1:54.48) and Robert Courtier (2:12.15) completed the Barking contingent.

Gary Coombes, running in the colours of Ilford AC, was third in the latest Crown to Crown 5k at Westley Heights Country Park, hosted by Pitsea.

Coombes clocked 18.18 and was followed home by Barking’s Vialls (23.06), Courtier (31.42) and Nicola Cranmer (32.41).

Further afield, Faye Sponner ran her first Colchester Zoo Stampede half marathon, which started near the elephant enclosure and covered 13.1 miles on surrounding roads. And Spooner finished unscatched in a fine time of 1:47.06.

Trevor Parkin was delighted to finish the Olympic Park Run Through 5k in 32.38, while James Lowndes was first club member home at the latest Barking parkrun, in 19.49, as Diarmuid Mac Donnell clocked 19.11 at the Valentines parkrun in Ilford.

Andy Preston completed his 200th parkrun at Clapham Common, finishing in 22.28 ahead of Rory Burr (22.57) and Barry Culling (23.44).
