Road Runners out in force at cross-country event

Vicky Cooper led Barking Road Runners home at their latest cross-country league event at South Weald.

Cooper completed the 7k course in seventh place, with Ashley Donoghue (44th) and Alison Fryatt (98th) also in action.

Steve Philcox was first Barking man home in 24th, with Derv Bartlett not far behind in 30th.

Steve Donoghue (51st), Martin Page (55th), Mark Gare (71st) and Diarmuid MacDonnell (93rd) all cracked the top 100, with John George (102nd) and Andrew Gwilliam (107th) just outside that group.
Veteral Ron Vialls (117th), Gareth Tucker (125th), Kresh Veerasamy (135th), Mick Davison (136th) were among the next crop of Barking runners home, with Martin Mason (156th), Gary Harford (158th), Dennis Spencer-Perkins (160th), Chris Anastasi (163rd), Michael Ball (171st) and Ken Summerfield (174th) completing a superb turnout for the club.

Meanwhile, in Barcelona, Spain, Faye Spooner was busy running a half marathon and achieving an excellent time of 1hr 46min 42sec.

Ian Brett was first man home at the latest Barking parkrun, in a time of 20.08, as Neil Williamson (20.48) and Bob Lokgiri (21.16) completed the top three on a damp day.

Sarah Wilson (21.05) pipped Barking’s Amanda Heslegrave (22.13) in the women’s standings, as Claire Brinsmead (22.56) finished third.

Vialls (22.23) pipped Barking clubmate Wayne McAllister (22.30), as Mahbub Khan (24.34), Michael Swan (27.46), Sifelani Sayisayi (33.09), Mike Allen (39.53) and Alan Murphy (40.30) also took part.

The best age grade scores were recorded by Vialls, Wilson and Heslegrave as 53 runners from nine clubs took part, including six debutants.

Series leaders, men: Neil Williamson 2,944; Adam Shaikh 2,526; Aftab Sarwar 2,483; women: Iman Shaikh 2,677; Dawn Blake 2,584; Cashelle Souris 2,434.

n Barry Culling completed the Finsbury parkrun in 22.25, as Vicky Cooper took on the role of tail runner.

And Barking’s Emma Roebuck clocked 31.41 at Southwark, while Diarmuid MacDonnell was first Barking runner home at Valentines in 20.22.

Antony Leckerman (24.07), Vicki Groves (26.56), Andy Preston (26.59), Richard Ash (30.38), Rakesh Sandhu (32.23) and Ken Summerfield (32.39) also celebrated the fourth anniversary of the Valentines event.

n Barking’s George Hiller was second boy home in the last Barking & Dagenham Junior parkrun at Central Park.

Hiller clocked 13.35 to finish behind Krishan Chowdhury (12.34), as Jaikaar Tratt (17.01) completed the top three.

Tilly Malbon was first girl home and first overall on her debut in a fine 9.22, while Zoe Hiller was not far behind with a time of 9.33.

Dagenham 88s Maddison Sprent (11.14) was third girl to finish as eight youngsters took part, with Malbon, Zoe Hiller and Sprent recording the best age grade scores.

Series leaders, boys: Krishan Chowdhury 3,527; Thomas Dudman 2,950; George Hiller 2,644; girls: Maddison Sprent 2,966; Zoe Hiller 2,697; Annelise Crispin 2,255.
