AFTER two defeats in British lightweight title fights in two years, Dave Stewart aims to make it third time lucky and looks to stake his claim for another chance when he appears on the Hennessy Sports promotion at York Hall, Bethnal Green on February 22.

He faces Basingstoke's Jon Honney on the show that is headlined by Darren Barker's defence of his Commonwealth middleweight championship against midlander Steve Bendall.

Like the undefeated Barker, Stewart is a former Repton amateur, who has campaigned under the banner of the local TBS promotions stable in the professional ranks

However, the six-foot-tall Scotland-born stylist knows that at the age of 32, he must make progress towards another title shot - and cannot afford a setback against Honney on next week's Hennessy Sports promotion.

Stewart put up a game battle in his British title clash with John Thaxton last October when he was halted in the final round of a thrilling 12-round clash. A year earlier he had been stopped by Lee Meager.

Those two title defeats were the only two losses in his 23-bout career.

He can expect to be put to the test against seasoned camp-aigner Honney, who ended a long losing run by outpointing Nathan Ward in a Southern Area light welterweight title fight last year.

Another former Repton amateur currently boxing under the TBS banner is also in action as light middleweight Daniel Herdman is named in a four -round contest on the Hennessy Sports show undercard.

Herdman lost his pro debut against tough Latvian Gatis Skuja, but looks to bounce back with a good win on the bill.

Other bouts on the night feature Lenny Daws (Morden), Andrew Singh Kooner (Birmingham), David Walker (Bermondsey) and Victor Smith (Tottenham).

Tickets for next week's York Hall promotion are available from the Hennessy Sports box office - telephone no: 0870 060 1795
