A Barking Abbey select squad will take on NCAA Division One school the University of Portland on Saturday afternoon at Barking Abbey Leisure Centre.

The game will tip at 1.45pm and is free for spectators, as Abbey will field a team made up of current student-athletes and alumni, including the likes of former junior internationals Josh Steel, Dwayne Orija, Leigh Greenan and Jesse Chuku.

“This will be a great experience for us to be playing an NCAA Division One team,” said Abbey’s director of operations Lloyd Gardner.

“After the success of hosting several female teams over the past few years it’s great to be able to welcome another men’s team

“It will be great to get on the floor with some of our old players having them wearing the BA kit again.”

Portland will come to London after being based in Leicester and having already face off against Newcastle Eagles and Leicester Riders select squads.

They join an ever-growing list of US college programme’s to grace the Barking Abbey hardwood, including Notre Dame, Michigan State, West Virginia, and Florida Tech.
