Barking and Dagenham youngsters land medals at London Youth Games judo finals

Barking and Dagenham judo team claimed a clutch of medals at the London Youth Games finals at the weekend.

The team, which was made up of athletes from across the borough to take part in the event at Crystal Palace’s Centre of Sport excellence, landed bronze in the girls’ category.

TKJ club members Ryan Cooper and Fobaniyi Abidekun bagged themselves gold medals, while Lauran Jones and Amy Bundy pick up silver, as well as bronze medal for Smilte Simitruis and Fayokemi Abidekun.

Other borough competitors Tommy Batstone landed gold and Jemila Jung and Meghan Batstone scored silver medals.

Head coach Turan Kiani said: “We did fantastically well with a small team with the Barking and Dagenham girls team finishing in second place overall.

“I’m over the moon with this result and we hope to build on this and hopefully win it next year.”
