Barking Abbey’s Alex Ferguson has signed with NCAA Division Two school Fresno Pacific University on a full athletic scholarship for the 2018-19 season.
The six foot eight inch forward, who joined from City of Edinburgh and played for Abbey in the EABL and with partner club Kent, will move to the US after graduating.
He said: “It’s always been an ambition of mine to play at NCAA level, so that I can push myself to further my game and test myself against top competition.
“Playing in the NCAA will be a great opportunity for me to challenge myself in terms of adapting to the American style of basketball.
“Fresno Pacific is the perfect fit for my game and will be the best place to help my transition. I can’t wait to be a part of the programme and get on the floor with my new teammates!”
Barking Abbey’s director of operations Lloyd Gardner added: “It’s great news for Alex. He’s had a tremendous impact with our programme in the short time he’s been with us.
“He had a great grounding with his career up until this point in Edinburgh. I feel like he’s really pushed on since he’s been at Barking Abbey and it’s an excellent opportunity for him.”
FPU head coach CJ Haydock said: “Alex was someone who jumped off the screen to us as we watched him on film, as someone who had a unique skill set, size, intelligence, toughness and character.
“As we had the chance to see him compete live and build a relationship with him, we became immensely confident this was a young man with a bright future, who has the chance to be a special player in our league.”
