Two former Barking Abbey student-athletes have been named to the Ireland Senior Men’s squad that will compete at the 2018 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries, which tips off in San Marino this week.

Belfast Star’s Keelan Cairns and Moycullen’s Patrick Lyons have both made the team, who will be led by head coach Pete Strickland.

Cairns attended BA from 2009-11, whilst Lyons graduated in 2014, as both have carved out pro careers for themselves in their native Ireland.

“We’re incredibly proud to have players from so many years ago still representing at an international level,” BA’s Director of Operations Lloyd Gardner said.

“Both are a credit to our programme and we wish them all the best in San Marino.”

Ireland are drawn in Group B with Andorra and Malta, and will tip off on Wednesday June 27 against Malta at 2pm.
