DAGENHAM Boxing Club's national Golden Gloves title hope Ben Hall moved through the regional round of the competition at York Hall, Bethnal Green on Sunday with another good performance.

Hall came through another test against a highly-rated opponent, when he defeated Bushey BC rival Tommy Smith to book his place in the quarter-finals of the national competition.

The Bushey boxer, who won the Home Counties qualifiers, was rated a real prospect to make progress through to the later rounds of the national schoolboys competition.

Smith worked hard to take Warren schoolboy Hall out of his stride in the opening round of Sunday's clash.

However, the Dagenham boxer, who had already eliminated national champion Gerry Walsh (Newham) on his way to winning a London title, responded well with effective attacks.

Boxing to the orders of coach Nicky Nunn, Hall controlled the bout to gave his opponent a real boxing lesson and made sure of the verdict in the Class three 54kg encounter.

The 14-year-old now moves forward to the quarter-finals against opposition from the Eastern Counties (Essex/Suffolk/Norfolk /Mid Anglia) once again at York Hall this coming Saturday.
