Archant

Barking’s second team got the better of Tennyson in their latest Essex County League Division One outing.

After choosing to bat, they lost openers Sheikh Abbas and Raj Kothari cheaply, but Sheraz Sheryar led a rally.

Sheryar hit 52 and had support from Shaan Shafiq (36), Gulaam Abbas (22) and tailender Faraz Ahmed (25) as Barking reached 196.

Ahmed struck early in the Tennyson reply, but the home side reached 98-1 before Abbas claimed the first of four successive wickets to leave them 117-5.

Usman Mahmood and Kothari also had success, with Danny Duhig sealing a 35-run victory.

The thirds piled up 219 against Newham, with leading contributions from skipper Sarith Fernando (48), Bhubendra Chauhan (45) and Abhishek Sharma (36).

And the total proved beyond the home side, as Sharma (4-35), Fernando (2-5) and Harry Murphy (2-24) combined to dismiss Newham for 136 in 24 overs.
