Barking triumphed by just one run at home

Barking secured bragging rights over local rivals Scintilla by the narrowest of margins with a one-run win at home in the Essex County Premier Division.

After winning the toss, the hosts batted first, but were bowled out for just 192 with 46 from Pulkit Gupta the top score.

Barking’s progress with the bat was checked, though, by three wickets for both Mohammad Chowdhury and Ishaq Shawn of Scintilla.

In reply, the visitors looked to be edging close to victory with a knock of 36 from MD Tanin.

However, Scintilla fell agonisingly short as they were all out for 191, with Imran Butt and Bhavik Kothari taking three wickets each.

And Barking skipper Ehsan Afzal was happy to claim the derby spoils against a Scintilla team he rates highly.

“I am very pleased with the victory. Scintilla have been playing some real good cricket and it showed in how they went about chasing the total down,” said Afzal.

“I thought 192 was not a massive total, but it gave us a chance to try and win the game on a flat batting track.

“The pacers up front did well and left-arm spinner Bhavik Kothari will always keep the team in the game with the energy bought in to each game.”
