Scintilla finish their league campaign with a crushing victory over Bow Green to secure a top-four finish in the division
Scintilla finished their Essex County League Premier Division campaign with an emphatic win over Bow Green on Saturday to secure a fourth-place finish.
After losing to Roding Valley the previous weekend, the local club bounced back to defeat their already relegated hosts by 184 runs.
Batting first, Scintilla lost Ashraful Islam cheaply, but Rokan Uddin Arafat and Juwel Roy put on 111 for the second wicket.
When Arafat fell for exactly 50, it brought Rishad Haque (22) to the crease and he put on 60 for the third wicket with Roy.
Haque was caught with the score on 180-3 and Roy’s fine innings was ended soon after with the number three out for a brilliant 93.
It didn’t slow Scintilla’s run-rate, however, with Ayaz Karim scorching an unbeaten 45 and Hanif Kibria adding 30.
The visitors were able to reach 304-8 from their 45 overs with Ishaq Shawn hitting 23 at number eight.
Bow Green then failed to offer much resistance in reply and Scintilla’s Morshedur Rahman (3-31) got into their batting line-up from the off.
He claimed three early scalps to reduce the home side to 51-4 and they were never able to properly recover.
Inayat Hassain picked up the baton after a difficult opening spell from Rahman and he went on to record 3-15 off his six overs.
Karim (1-4) and Bulbul Kadir (1-29) claimed single scalps too, as Bow Green were all out for 120.
It means Scintilla finished the campaign in fourth position with 212 points from their 16 league fixtures after winning seven times in the Premier Division in 2017.
They were 39 points off champions Barking, but can be proud of their efforts. A combination of poor weather and a lack of victories during July and August resulted in Scintilla missing out on a higher finish.
“Congratulations to Barking on back-to-back Premier Division title wins,” said Karim. “They were by far the most consistent team in our league and for us, we will now reflect, re-energise, and come back stronger next year.”
Jahidul Haque scored a blistering 122 and Shaha Riadh 60 as Scintilla’s second-team saw off Tennyson in the Essex County League Division One after reaching 309 all out on Saturday.
Haque’s innings came off 110 balls and included 16 fours and two maximums, while Adil Ijaq scored 39 at number six.
Scintilla were able to enjoy their time in the field with Tennyson all out for 120 with only 31 overs completed.
The wickets managed to be shared around with nine players having a bowl in the end and Walid Ahmed (1-8), fresh from his 175 the previous weekend against Ford, recorded the best figures both economically and in terms of strike rate.
It allowed Scintilla to finish the campaign in fourth, like the first-team in the Premier Division, after a big victory.
Ejaz Bhatti said: “We enjoy our cricket and it is a total pleasure to captain and play alongside these boys.”
