Hawks 270-7 beat May & Baker 156 by 114 runs

MAY & BAKER were soundly beaten by Hawks in their Essex Lord's International Premier Division encounter at the weekend.

Bowling first, Bakers were unable to prevent Hawks posting a competitive total of 270, despite the efforts of Khalid Hussain, who took 2-35, Tariq Aziz (1-30) and Sajad Mirza (1-47).

Opening batsman Hubert Ryan bludgeoned 57, including seven fours and a six before being bowled by Hussain, and his knock set Hawks up for a defendable score, one that Bakers failed to reach by some distance.

There were some solid if unspectacular knocks but they never looked like threatening Hawks, with Baker's highest run scorer Aziz, who added to his wicket with 34 runs.

The rest of their batsmen failed to muster any kind of rhythm at the crease, with Kashif Iqbal (20), I Pameera (20) making starts but instead of going on, the team limped to 156 all out.

Bakers hover one place above the relegation zone having lost their opening two league matches.

They go into this weekend's match against Grays & Chadwell aware of the need to stop the rot even at this early stage in the campaign.
