Dagenham & Redbridge face one of the main title favourites Chesterfield as they bid to continue showing their intent in the National League this season.

Daggers will play host to The Spireites on Saturday at Victoria Road eager to pull off an upset against the big spenders.

James Rowe’s men have been amongst the front-runners throughout the opening stages of the campaign and are very much expected to be battling it out for the league title come the end of the season.

Dagenham could however be without forwards Josh Walker and Paul McCallum through injury and suspension.

The former Barnet forward Walker could be back in contention while McCallum will be finishing off his three game suspension.

Manager Daryl McMahon said: “Josh got injured on Tuesday in training with a groin injury, it’s nothing major, he trained but it was not worth the risk as we’d be without him for a long time.

“Hopefully he’ll be back.”

Dagenham were also due to travel up north to Halifax Town another side competing among the top end of the table on Tuesday evening (last night) on the back of the 3-0 victory over rivals Southend United.

The league table is beginning to take shape with the top end becoming increasingly tight points wise.

It was only a second clean sheet of the season for the Daggers much to the delight of full-back Sam Ling who netted a brace in that Southend win.

“It was my first senior brace, so buzzing to get the goals, but more importantly to get the three points and a long over due three points.

“That’s testament to everyone out there, we needed to bounce back after a few iffy results in the league, and that’s what we have done.

“I think El (Elliot Justham) deserves it, we’ve defended well at times, and there has been sloppy goals but we need to start racking up the clean sheets now and hopefully this can be the base for us to kick on now and get more.

“We’ve got to use that momentum now.”

In other news, Dagenham youngster Aaron Blair netted a goal for Barking as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Dereham Town in the Isthmian North.

The youngster will be hoping he can impress with the Blues during his loan spell.
