Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett is keen for his team to show Morecambe how much they have grown since their defeat on the opening day of the season.

The Shrimps came to Victoria Road on August 9 and scored three times in the second half through Kevin Ellison, Padraig Amond and Jack Redshaw to earn a comfortable 3-0 win.

But Daggers have improved massively over the past two months and are currently on a four-match unbeaten run, whilst they have only been beaten once since December 28.

And Burnett is eager for his side to show their improvement when they visit Globe Arena tomorrow (Sunday) for a 1pm kick-off.

He said: “It was a very tight game in the first half and we made some individual errors again so it was a disappointing opening day of the season.

“But we are better than that and stronger than that now and I think that showed against Portsmouth and I think we will continue to get stronger.

“The confidence has been better because we have stood up to be counted and everyone has played a part in that.

“We go to Morecambe, which will be a very tough game, but we go in high spirits.”

Burnett praised the continued work rate his players have displayed throughout the season and stated why he believes Daggers are picking up more points.

“What the boys are doing is they are working tirelessly. That hasn’t changed throughout the season,” he added.

“But we are just not making individual errors now. We eradicated those errors and hence why we are picking up some points I guess.”

The goals of Jamie Cureton have helped Burnett’s side achieve victories against Cheltenham Town and York City recently.

If he plays against the Shrimps tomorrow it will be his third game in the space of eight days, but Daggers have been looking after the 39-year-old.

“We gave Jamie some time off after York so he only had to report to the Portsmouth game. We have managed him and he’ll have a couple more days off,” Burnett said on Tuesday.

“We’ll manage him again for Morecambe because we want him in the team. He is a goalscorer and he has been absolutely fantastic for us.

“He has got assists and goals and he has done beyond what I thought he could do so I am really pleased.”
