Coasters could have been several goals up before Daggers drew level
Dagenham & Redbridge’s 2-1 victory at home to Fylde in the Vanarama National League left Coasters boss Dave Challinor bemused as to how his team lost.
The Mill Field club took the lead inside 34 seconds with Andy Bond on target for the visitors.
Fylde could easily have added another three or four goals inside the opening 20 minutes, but for a terrific display from Daggers stopper Elliot Justham.
The Essex club then grew into the game and levelled through Conor Wilkinson, before Jack Munns scored the winner in the second half.
It was certainly a win that looked unlikely for Daggers early on against Fylde, and Challinor could not quite understand how his team had lost the match.
“Sometimes it’s very easy to be critical, especially so soon after a final whistle, but sometimes you don’t get what you deserve,” he said.
“How we didn’t win the game is a little bit mind-blowing, but you have to get on with it.
“Their keeper had a day to remember, but if I’m being critical, we had to stick our chances away.
“The game should have been over after 20 minutes and we should have been out of sight, but unfortunately they’ve had three shots on goal and two of them have gone in our net.”
Though Bond had opened the scoring for Fylde inside the first minute, the midfielder was forced off midway through the first half with an injury.
Bond went off just four minutes before Wilkinson drew Daggers level, but Challinor was quick to deny losing his midfielder to injury was a turning point in the match.
“It’s not as if we lost a goalkeeper or a centre-back and we have to put a midfielder on in their place, it was a straight swap,” he added.
“It didn’t disrupt us too much and you can look for excuses, but we lost the game and we move on.”
