Assistant manager steps up to top job with Spitfires, with former boss Richard Hill now director of football

Dagenham & Redbridge’s visitors on Saturday Eastleigh will have a new manager in charge for their trip to Victoria Road following a restructuring on Monday.

Andy Hessenthaler, previously assistant manager with the Spitfires, has taken over in the dugout from former boss Richard Hill, who has moved upstairs to become director of football.

In his playing days, the 52-year-old spent a season with Redbridge Forest, who later went on to merge with Dagenham to form the Daggers as we know them now.

As a manager, Hessenthaler has a good recent record against the Essex club, guiding Leyton Orient to a 3-2 win in League Two in April 2016, as well as a 2-1 friendly success three months later.

Daggers will hope Eastleigh do not receive a boost from their new manager ahead of this weekend’s clash in the National League.

When the sides met in Hampshire in August, a brace from Corey Whitely helped the Essex club record a 2-2 draw at the Silverlake Stadium.
