National League: Dover Athletic 1 Dagenham & Redbridge 0

Dagenham & Redbridge were brought back down to earth as they were edged out and suffered a 1-0 defeat to high-flying Dover Athletic.

A first-half goal from Mitch Pinnock sealed the three points for the Whites and ended the Daggers hopes of building on their 3-0 victory against Torquay United on the weekend at the Crabble Athletic Ground.

Daggers manager John Still named an unchanged starting eleven but the club’s top goal scorer returned to the bench with defender Liam Gordon dropping out of the match day squad.

Chris Kinnear makes two changes to the side that started against Solihull with Liam Bellamy and Josh Passley coming in for Nortei Nortey and Ejiro Okosieme who dropped to the bench while new loan signing Kevin Lokko came into the side as a substitute.

The visitors got the first chance of the match inside the opening minute when Charlee Adams fired a shot from distance but Mitch Walker does enough to push it out for corner.

Dover thought they’d broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when Giancarlo Gallifuoco put the ball into the back of the net, but it was disallowed as the Dagenham keeper Mark Cousins was fouled on the play.

The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when the ball found Mitch Pinnock with his back to the goal and the midfielder overhead kicked the ball over Cousins and into the net.

Ten minutes later Dover almost doubled their lead as Anthony Jeffrey skipped past his mark and blasted a shot at goal which is well parried.

Liam Bellamy then headed a lopping header at goal, which went just over the bar, as Cousins was off his line.

Early in the second-half the hosts Bellamy, Pinnock and Ryan Bird linked up well to get through Dagenham’s defence and Bird’s shot went just wide.

Bird then volleyed a shot on target but it was cleared wide for a corner, the corner kick was whipped in and punched out by Cousin, but fell to Connor Essam who lashed a shot just wide.

Pinnock got the ball down following a Walker goal kick and crossed it in for Bird, whose header goes went wide of the far post in the 66th minute.

The Daggers almost equalised in the 78th minute when substitute Michael Cheek turned and fired a low, hard shot, that went wide of the far post.

Three minutes later Cheek has another go at goal but Walker manages to clear the ball off the line to deny the visitors as they ramped up the pressure.

In the final minute former Dagger Femi Ilesanmi run down the wing and smashed a shot which was parried away by Cousins.
