Daggers make long trip north after collecting first win in three last weekend
Dagenham & Redbridge skipper Scott Doe expects the team to head to Barrow in a buoyant mood following last weekend’s National League win at home to Forest Green Rovers.
After stuttering in recent weeks, Daggers did their play-off hopes the power of good with a 2-1 win over Rovers last weekend.
And Doe, who grabbed the match-winner on Saturday, expects the team to still be buzzing when they venture to Cumbria this weekend.
“The win against Forest Green will breed so much confidence. We’d won five in a row, but then we lost three in four,” said Doe.
“We’ve always bounced back, and we were disappointed we didn’t bounce back against Gateshead.
“To do it against Forest Green at home where our results haven’t been too good is massive and we will take a lot of confidence from the win.”
It could have been different for Daggers last weekend, though, having conceded an equaliser nine minutes from time after Jordan Maguire-Drew had earlier put the hosts ahead.
Maguire-Drew’s goal marked the first time since the win over Chester on February 4 that Daggers had scored the opener in a game – a run of five matches.
It seemed to give Daggers a boost on the pitch, and though they tired which allowed Rovers the chance to equaliser, Doe was just pleased the Essex club finally opened the scoring in a game once again.
“It is natural because when you get a goal, the confidence is lifted,” he added.
“We hadn’t got a goal first in a match for a while, so the confidence returned after we got that goal.
“All the lads were running everywhere to try to hold on to the lead. When they got the goal, and it was good header, it was a bit deflating, but to come back was important.”
