Daggers gave a good account of themselves in defeat to Aldershot Town in National League on Saturday

Assistant manager Junior Lewis praised the Dagenham & Redbridge squad for giving a good account of themselves in defeat to Aldershot Town, despite the turbulent times the National League outfit currently find themselves in.

Daggers took to the pitch on Saturday for the first time since former director Glyn Hopkin announced he would no longer fund the Victoria Road outfit and suffered a 2-0 loss to Shots.

Despite the off-field uncertainty, Daggers still offered a solid display against the Hampshire outfit, something which pleased Lewis.

“They are a great bunch of lads to work with, everyone single one of them and even the ones who aren’t playing,” said the 44-year-old.

“After the game, they’re still doing their bits of work and trying to keep their fitness up, so they’re a great bunch.

“Against Aldershot, the work rate they put in and the performance they put in, you could see the confidence in the team grow and grow throughout the game.

“They’re hurting inside because they knew they should have got something out of the game.”
