Left winger lined up in heart of midfield for Daggers at Bedford Town on Saturday

John Still believes Jake Howells can be an option for Dagenham & Redbridge in midfield this season.

The 26-year-old featured for Daggers as a left winger last term, but in the first game of pre-season on Saturday, lined up with Matt Robinson in midfield.

And Still, who managed Howells at Luton Town, is confident he has what it takes to succeed in that position.

“Jake has played there for me before at Luton, but he’s also played wide left and left back,” said the Daggers boss.

“I thought he was the game’s best player at Bedford, albeit a pre-season friendly.

“When he joined in January, he had just had his knee op and we probably tried too hard to get him fit too soon if I’m being honest.

“He’s done well so far in pre-season, he’s been excellent in training and his display on Saturday was first class.

“He’s a very clever player and he gives us some good choices because of his versatility.”
