Forward pens two-year deal and becomes Daggers fifth signing of the summer

Dagenham & Redbridge have signed striker Michael Cheek on a two-year deal from National League South outfit Braintree Town.

The 25-year-old struck 19 goals in the National League last season despite the Iron being relegated, one more than Oliver Hawkins managed for Daggers.

Cheek, who also counts Heybridge Swifts and Stanway Rovers among his former clubs, is said to have turned down interest from the Football League to move to Victoria Road.

The attacker becomes the fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Ben Nunn, Daniel Sparkes, Morgan Ferrier and Bondz N’Gala.

Cheek is set to challenge Oliver Hawkins, Morgan Ferrier and Elliott Romain to be Daggers’ leading man in attack.

In other news, Paul Benson has joined National League rivals Boreham Wood following his release from Daggers last month.

The 37-year-old has signed a one-year deal with Wood with the option of a second and will also coach the Hertfordshire club’s youngsters.
