Daggers striker could be in from the off at Recreation Ground

Dagenham & Redbridge new boy Elliott Romain could be set for his full debut at Aldershot Town tonight after coming off the bench at Barrow on Saturday.

The 25-year-old joined National League promotion hopefuls Daggers last week from Eastbourne Borough of the National League South.

Away to Barrow, Romain made his debut and saw a late effort cleared off the line as the Essex club pushed for an equaliser.

With Daggers struggling for goals in recent weeks, their new forward, who already has 20 in all competitions this season, may be what they need in attack.

Where Romain slots in may be a bone of contention as he replaced Jordan Maguire-Drew on Saturday, but striker Oliver Hawkins has looked tired in recent weeks.

Should Romain come in for Maguire-Drew, then Hawkins’ recent struggles may open the door for Paul Benson, who has not started a game since December.

Shaun Donnellan and Andre Boucaud are expected to feature before flying off for international duty later in the week.

Donnellan in particular looked set to miss the trip to the Recreation Ground, but it is understood Daggers have received special dispensation from the Football Association of Ireland to play him.

Elsewhere, it is expected to be a case of as you were with Elliot Justham in goal and Jake Sheppard, Scott Doe and Joe Widdowson in defence.

Craig Robson will partner Boucaud in midfield, with Corey Whitely in the hole and Fejiri Okenabirhie on the left flank.

Matt Robinson and Curtley Williams may both make the bench after recovering from long-term injuries.

However, Luke Howell, Luke Guttridge and Luke Pennell will all miss out, but are nearing returns to fitness.

Probable XI: Justham; Sheppard, Doe, Donnellan, Widdowson; Boucaud, Robson; Romain, Whitely, Okenabirhie; Benson.
