Daggers could ease winger back with another substitute appearance

Zavon Hines could continue his comeback from injury tonight as Dagenham & Redbridge visit Cambridge United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The attacker made his first appearance in over 18 months in the 1-1 draw against Stevenage, replacing Jodi Jones with just over 10 minutes left in the match.

Daggers first-team coach Darren Currie has already urged caution in rushing Hines back too quickly, so it looks like he will start as a substitute once again.

Jones’ starting berth could be up for grabs, though, should the youngster complete a late deadline day move with Brighton & Hove Albion and MK Dons among those still interested in the 17-year-old.

But manager Wayne Burnett cannot make wholesale changes for tonight’s game, with competition rules stating he must name six players who started against Boro in tonight’s squad or six players who made the most starting appearances last season.

One enforced change will be that of Andre Boucaud, who flew out on Sunday night to link up with Trinidad & Tobago ahead of Friday’s friendly with Mexico.

His place in midfield will likely be taken by Matt Richards while Joe Widdowson looks the leading candidate to take over the armband given he started against Stevenage.
