Dagenham & Redbridge’s first team might be enjoying their final few weeks off before pre-season training begins, but the club’s walking football team go for glory at the weekend.

The Daggers group will travel to Aston Villa this weekend to take part in the English League finals.

The group warmed up for the competition in perfect fashion having recorded a 12-4 triumph over local rivals Leyton Orient.

Ron Talsworth smashed five goals for Daggers in the triumph, with Mick Harris netting a hat-trick, Vincent Bull hitting a brace and George Wellman and Peter Wallace also on target.

Trained by manager Terry Rice, over-50s’ and over-60s’ squads meet twice a week in training and they will hope to prepare well for the weekend’s trip to Aston Villa.

Anyone interested in joining either of the Daggers’ walking football teams should send an email to walkingfootball@daggerstrust.co.uk.
