Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink brings in-form side to Victoria Road to face confident home team
Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett is looking forward to pitting his wits against Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbank this weekend, but is more interested in how his team measures up against title challengers Burton Albion.
The Brewers come to Victoria Road in sensational form and joint top of League Two alongside Shrewsbury Town.
They haven’t lost since November 29 and are 12 matches unbeaten, but the Daggers boss is excited about the challenge.
“I don’t think they have been beaten for many, many games so it will give us a good idea of where we are compared to a promotion chasing team,” said Burnett.
“But games at all levels are so tight and there are no easy games anymore. You look at FA Cup games like Bradford beating Chelsea and Liverpool only narrowly beating Wimbledon. They are so tight.
“Anyone can beat anyone and the first goal is key at this level. Saturday will be a good indicator of how close we are or how far away we are from the top.”
Burnett has been impressed with the work Hasselbaink has done at Pirelli Stadium.
He believes Burton would do well if they earned promotion and has paid tribute to the former Dutch international for taking a job at this level.
Burnett added: “Jimmy was a fantastic footballer and he had an illustrious career. But he wants to cut his teeth in League Two and fair play to him. He probably could have got a job at a higher level.
“I don’t know that for a fact, but he probably could have. But he wanted to take over a club like Burton.
“They are a fantastic team and, I think if he can get them promoted, they will do well in League One under his guidance.”
